Between the fall of 2005 and the fall of 2007, the number of online classes available in the state's university system increased 66 percent to 958. The growth has been fueled by 18- and 19-year-olds fitting classes into work schedules, those in their 40s and 50s telecommuting to campus for a second degree and - some officials suspect - students fleeing high gas prices.

Programs are growing at Flathead Valley Community College as well. They currently offer 53 of their 60 required associates courses online, as well as multiple certificates. They plan to continue to grow, with all of their business classes available online by 2010.
